Mary L. Diaz of Portsmouth passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, 20 days after celebrating her 105th Birthday. She even received an official letter from Willard Scott when she turned 100.
She leaves behind her son Frank Oliveira and his wife, Flo of Portsmouth. She was Nanny Diaz to Pam Oliveira, Karen Moore, Dawn Borden, and the late Mary Beth Oliveira. She was also a great grandmother to Christopher, Elizabeth, Catherine, Matthew, Evan. Abby, Ava, Zachary, Riley, and Kelsey.
Mary was one of the first residents of Redwood Farms in Portsmouth where she lived from the late 1950s until almost her 100th birthday. She loved her home and kept both the inside and outside in immaculate condition doing all the work herself for many, many years. Mary was a hard worker outside of her home in the domestic field as well, babysitting for many families.
A memorial service led by Fr. John OBrien of St. Lucys Catholic Church in Middletown will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2018, at 1:00pm in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, followed by visiting hours until 3pm. Her burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to Meals on Wheels of RI, 70 Bath St., Providence, RI 02908. This organization was a very important part of keeping Mary at home as long as possible.
