Mary M. Guilfoyle

Mary Margaret (Sullivan) Guilfoyle, 67, of Newport, passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 in the Newport Hospital.She was the wife of John Guilfoyle, they began dating shortly after high school and later married in 1972. Born on September 18, 1948 in Newport, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (OLoughlin) Sullivan. She grew up on the Eastons point section of Middletown and spent her summers on The Rocks on the Esplanade. She spent the late 1960s working and traveling back and forth to Boston for the Newport Folk Jazz Festivals. Mary loved all animals and took great joy in her many pets. She was a donor to the Potter League. She would often be seen walking the reservoir with her dogs. She was a past member of the Seaside Garden Club, Irish Heritage, and Fort Adams. Mary was the office manager for obstetrician Dr. John Carey on Kay St for over 25 years. Besides her husband of 44 years, she leaves her sister Noreen Sullivan O'Neil of Newport, her nephews Stephen Wight of Tiverton, RI, David Wight of Saunderstown, RI and John Sullivan of Las Vegas, NV, Mary Lou Weiss and Thomas Sullivan of Portsmouth, RI. She was predeceased by her brothers John J. Sullivan and Francis X.
