Mary Pimentel

Mary (Medeiros) Pimentel, 96, formerly of Stockton Drive, Middletown, RI, and more recently the Grand Islander Healthcare Center, Middletown, RI, died peacefully on Thursday, July 20, 2017.She was the wife of the late Alfred D. Pimentel, who passed in 1979. Born in Fall River, MA on April 28, 1921, she was the eldest daughter of the late Jose V. and Marcelina (Cabral) Medeiros. Mary was very proud of her Portuguese decent and her strong Catholic faith. In earlier years, she enjoyed her daily trips to the Newport Creamery, playing Bingo, and caring for the children entrusted to her care, who fondly called her "Grandma P". After moving to the Grand Islander six years ago, she enjoyed participating in activities and socializing with the many friends and caregivers she came in contact with. She is survived by her two sons: Fred Pimentel and his wife Patti, of LaGrange, GA, and Chris Pimentel and his wife Christine, of Portsmouth, RI. She also leaves four grandchildren: Stephanie Thompson and Matthew Pimentel of Georgia, Ryan Pimentel of Portsmouth, RI, and Amy Pimentel of North Providence, RI, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Rose Martins and Adeline (Lena) Rodrigues.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at 10:00 AM, in Jesus Saviour Church, 509 Broadway, Newport, RI. Burial will take place at Newport Memorial Park, 123 Howland Avenue, Middletown, RI.Calling hours are respectfully omitted.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the "Grand Island Activities Fund", 333 Green End Avenue, Middletown, RI 02842.Chris and Christine would like to thank the entire Grand Islander Community for the care and compassion shown Mary during her time with them, most especially the "A Wing" care team, and the staff of Beacon Hospice.
