Melanie Griffin

Aug 31, 1963 — Oct 3, 2026

Melanie Ann Griffin, 63, passed away on October 3, 2026. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, partner, and friend whose strength, humor, and devotion to her family will always be remembered.

An incredibly hardworking woman, Melanie devoted much of her life to her family. She raised four children on her own with tremendous strength, determination, and love. Through life's challenges and joys, her children remained at the center of her world.

Melanie loved to cook and found happiness in life's simple pleasures-working on puzzles, spending time with her beloved cat, and listening to music. From Walkmans to CD players and everything that followed, music was always a part of her life.

She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved joking around and making those around her laugh. Those who knew her will remember her laughter, her personality, and the way she could bring humor into everyday moments.

Melanie is survived by her partner, Jeff McCalla; her children, Christian Griffin, Jemel Maloney, Jahmal Maloney, and Lillian Griffin of Newport; her siblings, Robert Griffin, William Griffin, and Mary Elizabeth Bailey; and her beloved grandchildren, Alexia Reardon, Keira Maloney, Kaden Maloney, Demetrius Griffin, Keith Maloney, Jacob Maloney, and Nathan Maloney.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Duma Griffin, Roberta Miranda, and Edith Sims.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Melanie on Friday, October 9, 2026, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, Rhode Island 02840. A Celebration of Life will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Park Holm Senior Center, 1 Eisenhower Street, Newport, Rhode Island 02840.

Melanie leaves behind a legacy of perseverance, laughter, and love. The memories she created, the lessons she taught, and the love she gave will continue to live on through her children, grandchildren, family, and friends. Her loved ones will carry her memory with them-in the music she enjoyed, the laughter they share, and the everyday moments that remind them of her.

Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever remembered.
