Michael Ryan

Michael Ryan, 76, formerly of Newport, died Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Park View Center in Providence, RI. Michael was born November 12, 1940 in Newport, RI, he was the son of the late Milton Edward and Mary (Dyer) Ryan. Michael grew up in Newport and attended De La Salle Academy, then worked for many years for the City of Newport in the Public Works Department. He also spent much of adult life working as an advocate for Mental Health issues. He was the past president of the Coalition of Consumer Self Advocates 1988-1989 and a volunteer at the Institute of Mental Health, and the National Association of Mental Health. Michael was also a past member of the Newport Elks Lodge and Wanumetonomy Country Club.He is survived by many cousins in the Galvin, Miranda and Smith families.Burial services will be held on Monday, June 5 at 11:00am in the chapel at St. Columba Catholic Cemetery, Brown's Lane, Middletown.
