Mildred M Gustafson

Mildred (Mahoney) Gustafson, 96 of Middletown, formerly of Sherman Street in Newport, passed away Monday, March 11, 2019 in the Royal Middletown Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Carl Gustafson.Born in Wrentham, MA, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Lucy (Deschamps) Mahoney.Mildred was a graduate of Woonsocket High School and worked as a candy striper at the former Woonsocket Hospital and went on to graduate from the Newport Hospital School of Nursing. Her career as a nurse spanned over forty years retiring as a charge nurse at Newport Hospital in 1982. She was a member of the Alumni Association of the Newport Hospital School of Nursing and enjoyed playing cards with her friends.Mildred leaves a nephew Robert Mahoney and his wife Mercedes of Cumberland, RI and two nieces Veronica Nightingale of East Providence, RI and Dianne Murphy of Holyoke, MA.Her funeral will be held Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RIAdditional information at www.memorialfuneralhome.com
