Arne R. Johnson Esq.

Arne Robert Johnson, ESQ., 82, died November 10, 2016 after a long illness (progressive supra nuclear palsy). Born in Bridgeport, CT, on March 12, 1934, he was the only child of the late Alexandra MacLeod Johnson and Everett R. Johnson, who was General Secretary of the New Britain, CT YMCA.Atty. Johnson was a long time member of the Newport, RI Rotary and a Paul Harris Fellow, judge advocate for 26 years of the Newport Navy League. He was a member of the Newport County Bar Association, as well as a member of the RI, NY and CT Bar Associations, and was also a member of the Portsmouth Conservation Commission and the Corporate Secretaries of America.Mr. Johnson was a graduate of the Taft School, Amherst College and Harvard Law School. After many years as a corporate attorney, he practiced family law in Newport, retiring in 1999.Besides his wife of 39 years, Nancy (Rodgers) Johnson, he is survived by his daughters, Alison Lee Johnson of Middletown, CT and Kathryn MacLeod Tracy, his stepdaughter, Lynn Bushoven, and cousin, Elaine Pearson. He was predeceased by his stepson, Jay J. Bigos.The family wishes to thank the Rev. William Sterrett for his long term support, his caregiver, Mike Binette, without whom Arne could not have lived at home as long as he did, and the staff of Tockwotton on the Waterfront where he resided for the last 10 months.His funeral will take place on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at 11:00am, at the Amicable Congregational Church, 3736 Main Road, Tiverton, RI.
