Arthur J. Santos

Arthur J. Santos, 85, of Newport, RI passed peacefully on Monday, December 11, 2017 at Newport Hospital. He was the loving husband of the late June (Groux) Santos. Arthur is survived by his children, Joann M. Anderson and her husband, Don, Marjorie E. O'Neill and her husband, Stephen, Matthew J. Santos and his wife, Mary; his four grandchildren, Lilly and Thomas Anderson, Alena and Karina ONeill; his sister, Agnes Brousseau, sister-in-law, Laura Santos, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Emily and Frank Santos, and his siblings, Frank (Jake), Joseph (Mike), Alfred, Alice, Edna, Emily Parvo, and Evelyn Martins. Arthur was born in Newport and graduated from Rogers High School. He started out as a sheet metal worker for Nasons and forty years later he still told stories about homes he worked on all over the island. Art later went on to work for the US Navy for 29 years until his retirement in 1995. Art lived most of his life on Freeborn Street with family members all around. He enjoyed nothing more than to spend time with friends and family and his garage door was always open while he worked on cars or took apart machinery. Art was a member of the North End Club and a life-long parishioner at Jesus Saviour Church.Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 from 9:00-10:30 a.m. in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway at Vernon Avenue, Newport, RI.
