James Leo Corr, Sr., 89, of Oliphant Lane, Middletown, RI, died peacefully, Friday, July 14, 2017 at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, MA. James, Red to those who knew him well, was born August 25,1927 in Providence, RI to the late Edward L. and Mary (Murphy) Corr. James was the husband, to the love of his life, Florence Vivian (Zerbus) Corr, for the last 63 years. James grew up in the Fifth Ward of Newport, as part of a proud Irish-American family. He served in the US Army during WWII and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. Upon returning to Newport, he began work at the Port of Davisville/Quonset. James then began working at the Newport Naval Station where he worked nights, and at Rays Auto, where he worked during the day as a mechanic. For years, he was working two jobs, raising his family, and still always made extra time for his family. James retired after many years at Raytheon where he worked in the transducer manufacturing facility. James was a longtime member of the Middletown Knights of Columbus, the Artillery Company of Newport, St. Lucys Church, and the Portsmouth Grange. He also volunteered his time with the Boy Scouts, specifically Portsmouth, Troop 82. He loved the time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, but always doted over the babies. When free time was available, James found peace outdoors, he enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing, gardening and golf.
