Jesse R. Dennis

Jesse R. Dennis, 99, of Middletown formerly of Simmons Street, Newport, RI, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2016 at home with his family by his side.He was the husband of the late Anna Marie (Ryan) Dennis. Born in Newport, RI on April 26, 1917, he was the son of the late Joseph Henry and Nellie (Vining) Dennis. Mr. Dennis served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He retired from the Supply Depot on the Newport Navy Base after 31 years. Jesse was known as a jack of all trades, helping with repairs on almost anything people needed done. He enjoyed walking along Kings Park, traveling with Anna and reading. He is survived by his children, John F. Dennis of Middletown, RI, Jesse J. Dennis of Concord, NH, Arthur C. Dennis of Newport, RI, Anna Marie Whitehead of Portsmouth, RI, Sandra Gould of Portsmouth, RI, and Sheila Toby of Middletown, RI, twenty grandchildren twenty seven great grandchildren and 2 great great-granchildrenHe was the father of the late Michael Dennis and Christopher Dennis as well as brother of the late Arthur Dennis, Joseph Dennis, Madeline LaRock and Mary Willis. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 3:00PM to 6:00PM, in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.His funeral will be held on Friday, July 29, 2016, at 11:00AM, in St. John the Evangelist, 61 Poplar Street, Newport.
