Raymond J. Henriques, Sr, 80, went on to glory on Friday, June 2, 2017 in Middletown, RI. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Barbara Kardel Henriques. He is also survived by his five children and spouses: Raymond and Marie Henriques of Dover, DE, William and Patti Henriques of Swansea, MA, Cheryl Reynolds of Middletown, Paul and Pam Henriques of Portsmouth, and Teresa "Tee" and Robert Gomes of Bristol, RI. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 10-soon to be 12-great grandchildren.Born February 24, 1937 in Fall River, MA, he was the son of the late John Raymond Henriques and Theresa Rose. He attended Rogers High School in Newport where he joined the ROTC. He later joined the Army National Guard and served our country for five years. He served in the Portsmouth Rotary Club for over 25 years where he received the prestigious Paul Harris Award. For 33 years he was the owner of Ray's Shell in Portsmouth, as well as Ray's Towing and Auto Transport and Valley View Motors.Ray has a passion for racing and owned a race team for several years in the 1970s where weekends were spent with the whole family at the Seekonk Speedway. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR, his favorite driver being Jeff Gordon.Ray served as an usher at his church, Grace Gospel in Somerset, MA for many years. Kids loved to come up to him and see what crazy tie he was wearing each week.His faith was manifested through his kindness and love for the community, from his involvement with Rotary Club events, to offering his towing trucks for parades, to hosting car washes for youth groups and countless other expressions of generosity.
