Newport, RI - Ryan Gerard Egan, 45, of Newport, died Thursday, November 27, 2014. Born during the Blizzard of '69 in Newport, RI on February 25, 1969, he was the son of John J. Egan, Jr, and the late Elizabeth L. Egan .Ryan was schooled at La Petite cole Franaise, Cluny School and Rogers High School. He graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a BS in Political Science. Ryan worked in the hospitality industry in Newport, RI and was most recently employed by Ocean Cliff Resorts. Ryan was highly appreciated and enormously enjoyed working as a team member at Ocean Cliff and was particularly fond of Band Night at Don's. Ryan was a member of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians and a member in good standing of the Dead Cellar Caf. In his youth he spent countless summer days with his siblings and many cousins at Hazard's Beach and in recent years he embraced his young nieces and nephews and introduced them to the joys of pyrotechnics on Grandpa Egan's lawn to their great delight and that of the astonished and unwitting neighbors. He won racing medals as a skier in Nastar events in New Hampshire and Colorado. He enjoyed surfcasting the rocks off Ocean Drive and watching his nieces and nephews in organized sport. Ryan was a golfer and played varsity football at Rogers High School under the late Coach John Toppa. He was also was an avid fan of the New England Patriots and was present at their Super Bowl win at New Orleans. Ryan enjoyed the music and festivals of the late Jerry Garcia and the band Furthur.Above and beyond all else Ryan was focused upon the enjoyment and welfare of his large and loving family and his extensive group of friends. He greeted everyone he met with the same exuberant and genuine interest in their lives. He is survived by his father, John J. Egan Jr., of Newport, RI; his five siblings: Elizabeth T. Portner (Charles) of Virginia Beach, VA, Gigi Tollefson (Daniel Roten) of Middletown, RI, George Tollefson (Carolyn) of Newport, James Tollefson (Stacy) of Middletown, John J. Egan III of Newport; as well as 14 nieces and nephews, one great nephew and godson Leo Dean Scanlan of San Francisco, his extended family and close friends.He was predeceased by his sister, Carolynne T. Canoll.Visiting Hours will be held on Monday, December 1, 2014, from 4 pm to 7 pm , in the Hambly Funeral Home, 30 Red Cross Avenue, Newport, R.I. His Mass of Christian Burial in the Extraordinary Form will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at 10:00 am, at St. Mary's Church, Spring St., Newport.His burial will follow immediately in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown, RI.Donations in his memory may be made to the Unified Theater, an organization inspired by Ryan's cousin, Kelsey O'Connor, which brings youth, with and without disabilities, together through the arts, at 15 Lewis Street, Suite 204, Hartford, CT 06103 or to the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center, 20 Dr. Marcus F.
