Agnes (Lewis) Rogers, 81, of Newport died Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Grand Islander Health Care Center in Middletown, RI. Agnes was born April 1, 1936 in Milledgeville, GA, the daughter of the late Jobie and Ida Beck (Simmons) Lewis.Agnes was always a hard worker, and worked to instill strong values in her family. As a younger woman, she worked for many years at General Electric. She then found her calling in nursing, and enjoyed many years helping others, first at Heatherwood Nursing Home and later she retired after many wonderful years at John Clarke Nursing Home. Through her time at John Clarke she received many accolades and recognition for her hard work, including Employee of the Year awards, her smile and her energy made her time there much more than just a job. Agnes was a devoted member of the CrossPoint Church in Newport and enjoyed helping with the childrens groups. She was a loving mother and grandmother, ready to provide advice and support, a well cooked meal or just to lend an ear. Through her life, she enjoyed dancing, reading, and listening to music, a long walk through town, or a long phone call with a dear friend. Agnes loved to hear and know that people suffering from alcoholism and addiction made it through and were recovering.She is survived by her children: Millicent E. Osborne Reese and her husband George of Brandywine, MD, Geraldine Rogers Flowers and the late Dr. David Flowers of Rockville, MD, Milton Rogers III and his wife Lisa of Wakefield, RI and Gerome Rogers and his wife Heather of Manchester, NH, her beloved grandchildren, Monique Wilkins, Christine Smith, Tomaz Osborne, Milton Rogers IV, Ashley Pearl Ida Rose Flowers, Kaliegh Agnes Marie Rogers, Ambre Joyce Anne Flowers, Gerome Rogers, Taylor Jean Rogers, David Everett Milton Flowers Jr, Jobie Lewis Rogers, and her great grandchildren Tanisha, Julie, Jaslyn, Rodney, Milton V, and Tristan. She also leaves her sisters in law, Lorraine Rogers, Joyce Rogers, and Lily Lewis, and brother in law John Thomas, many nieces and nephews and a dear group of friends.She is predeceased by her husband Milton Rogers Jr., her grandson, Don Broom Flowers, and her siblings, Elliot Lewis, Jobie Lewis Jr, and Annie Gay Thomas.Calling hours will be Friday, January 5 from 5:00-7:00pm at Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.The funeral will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, January 6 at CrossPoint Church, 14 Rhode Island Ave, Newport.
