Alice D. Augustus

Alice D. Augustus, 88, of Newport, RI, died Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Village House Nursing Home. Alice was born June 28, 1929 in Middletown, RI. She was the daughter of the late Deulinda (Garcia) Silvia and Manuel P. Silvia. She was the wife of the late Lawrence Augustus. Alice was employed by RI Hospital Trust Bank for 32 years. After she left the banking industry she worked for the law offices of Joseph Palumbo, Chris Behan and Joe Hook.Alice was a member of the Vasco Da Gama Society of Newport and a past member of the Middletown Democratic Committee.She is survived by her five children, Lawrence Augustus Jr, of Tyngsboro MA and his wife Eilleen, Alicia M. Hicks of Middletown, RI, Elizabeth Hicks and her husband Ralph, Janice Tasso and her husband Jimmy of Newport, RI, Ronald Augustus and his wife Karen of Bristol, RI. She also leaves 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.Alice was also preceded in death by her brother and 3 sisters Manuel P. Silvia, Deulinda Nunes, Elsie Perry, and Mary Correia.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, February 11, 2018 from 5:00-8:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.The funeral will be held on Monday, February 12, at 9:00am from the Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown. Burial will follow in St. Columba Cemetery.The family would like to extend the most sincere thanks to the staff of the Village House Nursing Home for the exceptional care given to our mother during her intermittent stays of the last year and a half.
