Beatrice M. Carrellas

Beatrice Marcia Carrellas, 90, of Middletown, RI, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 28, 2018. She was the wife of the late Dr. George Joseph Carrellas. Born in Fall River, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Joseph C. and Adeline D. (Cavaco) Carvalho. Mrs. Carrellas graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1945, and Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY in 1949. She taught school in Fall River, Massachusetts. She was a current member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Jesus Saviour Women's Holy Rosary Sodality and Hazards Beach, a past member of the Newport Hospital Auxiliary and a former board member of Cluny School. Her favorite recreational interests were tennis, skating and skiing and she was a past member of the Sachuest and Newport Casino Tennis Clubs, the Sachuest Skating Club and the Fall River Ski Club. She also enjoyed sailing, bowling, swimming, and dancing with her husband, especially at social events at the Officers Club, Seven Castles Club and Coimbra Club. The Preservation Society of Newport, the Newport Historical Society and the Newport Art Museum were the beneficiaries of her cultural and civic pride. Her love for reading and traveling were enhanced with her involvement with the Redwood Library and Lifetime Learning. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking, baking, gardening and interior design. Mrs. Carrellas leaves three sons, Stephen G. Carrellas and his wife Martha, Philip E. Carrellas and Matthew C. Carrellas; a sister, Alice C. Neves. She also was the sister of the late Dr. John M. Carvalho and Mary T. Carvalho. Her funeral will be Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 9:00am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Jesus Saviour Church, 509 Broadway, Newport.
