Constance Fesmire Macneil

Constance (Fesmire) MacNeil, 83, of Middletown died Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at Newport Hospital with her sons by her side. Connie was born March 14, 1933 in Philadelphia, PA. She was the only daughter of the late William Fesmire and Jane (Barnak) Fesmire. She was the wife of the late Thomas M. MacNeil Sr., whom she married on January 18, 1953 in Philadelphia. Connie was a dedicated Navy wife, loving and caring for her two boys during her husbands Navy career. After settling in Middletown, she worked for many years as a teachers aide in the Middletown Gaudet Middle School. She enjoyed diving into the kid's projects, helping research and develop their ideas. Her family was her greatest joy, and she took great pride in all her grandchildren and godchildren's accomplishments. She always enjoyed gardening and arts and crafts projects. She always had a special place in her heart for her dogs, especially Grady. She is survived by two sons: Thomas M. MacNeil Jr. and his wife Marti of Ivoryton, CT, and Joseph P. "Drywall" MacNeil of Middletown, RI, her primary caregiver over the last five years; her four grandchildren; Stephen MacNeil and his wife Dahlia of Charlotte, NC; William MacNeil of Youngstown, OH; Jeffrey MacNeil of Whitehouse Station, NJ; and Mary MacNeil of Ivoryton, CT; her two godchildren, Kaitlin Hartnett of Boston, MA; and Cadet Edward Hole, US Army ROTC of Portsmouth, RI. She is also survived by Margaret Hartnett of North Kingstown, RI and Katherine Hole of Portsmouth, RI, both were like daughters to Connie. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 26 at 9:00am at St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown, RI, with Deacon John Croy officiating. Burial will follow in St. Columba Cemetery, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice at Visiting Nurse Services of Newport Bristol Counties, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871 and the Robert Potter League for Animals, PO Box 412, Newport, RI 02840.
