Gail D More, 77, of Newport died Sunday, March 25, 2018 at St. Clare Home of Newport, RI. Gail was born July 23, 1940 in Bronx, NY. She is the daughter of the late James Francis Dickinson and Annetta (Curran) Dickinson. She was the wife of the late David Barclay More, who died on January 28, 2018. Gail grew up in White Plains, NY and graduated from SUNY, Oneonta. She brought her keen eye and love of art to the classroom as an elementary school teacher in Elmsford, NY. She married Tom Magill, but tragically she was widowed after just a few years of marriage. During a visit to Sugarloaf, NY she met David More. It was an instant and charismatic relationship, and they married and settled in South Salem, NY. She and David became partners for life and they began their own family during these years. Gail and David then made a remarkable change of lifestyle in 1984 when they moved their young family to Nantucket where they renovated the Nantucket Landfall. For 19 years they owned and operated the Inn and enjoyed all the friends they made, both the guests and the colleagues who helped them run the Inn. After their life on Nantucket, they enjoyed a retirement in the Adirondacks. Several years ago, David and Gail moved to Newport and enjoyed more time with their young grandchildren. Gail was known for her graceful combination of selflessness, generosity and humor. She was always genuinely interested in hearing about others, offering help, and remained witty through her recent illness. She is survived by her two children David Dickinson More of Beverly, MA and Dana More Spring of Newport, RI, a daughter in law, Melissa More and son in law Mark Spring, a sister in law Nancy Slater and her wife Joan Cain of Charleston, SC, and four grandchildren, Morgan Spring, William Spring, Harrison More, and Cameron More.A private service will be held at a later date.
