Gail P. Miner, 76, of Portsmouth, formerly of Newport, died Thursday, September 21, 2017 at St. Clare Home in Newport. Gail was born June 21, 1941 in Utica, NY, the daughter of the late William E. and Doris (Hopkins) Dodge. Gail lived in Newport where she was a member of St. Joseph's Church, sang in the Church Choir and taught CCD, active with PTA at Mumford School, and was a volunteer with the Girl Scouts. Early in her career she worked as a telephone operator at the Telephone Company, the Answering Service of Newport and Newport Hospital, she then worked at St. Georges School as a receptionist for over 25 years until her retirement in 2010. Gail was a devoted Red Sox fan, and an avid reader, knitter, and crafter.She is survived by four daughters, Kathleen "Kit" J. Frongillo of Roanoke, VA, Karen P. Weaver of Fairhaven, MA, Kimberly S. Miner of Forestville, WI and Tracy A. Connelly of Ferndale, MI, and a son David E. Miner of Warwick. She leaves 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, one sister Kathleen A. Simon of Syracuse, NY and two brothers, William E. Dodge and Joseph O. Dodge, both of New Hartford, NY.Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 from 4:00-7:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home 375 Broadway, Newport, RI, with a memorial service at 6:30pm. Burial will occur at a later date in Maryland in a family plot.Memorial Donations may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Rhode Island Chapter, 535 Centerville Road, Warwick, RI 02886.
