Iva G. Durfee, 97, of Middletown died Sunday, January 21, 2018 at Newport Hospital. Iva was born September 8, 1920 in Alamosa, Colorado, the daughter of the late Eulys Ross Guthrie and Lucy Margaret (Morris) Guthrie. She was the wife of the late Ray H. Durfee. Iva grew up in Alamosa, Colorado where she graduated from the Alamosa High School. She continued her studies at a business school in San Francisco, and then entered the US Army and served in WWII in the Womens Army Corps and obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant. During her station in Camp Edwards, MA, she met Ray Durfee. She married Ray on May 20,1950 and settled in Middletown, RI. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They lived in Middletown for over 60 years, and she was active with the Edward King Center, and the Middletown Historical Society. Iva also enjoyed reading and traveling the US and Europe.She is survived by two children Lynda M Durfee of Alexandria, VA and Robert H. Durfee of Laconia, NH; two grandchildren, Paul H. Durfee and his wife Carrie of North Sandwich, NH and Carolyn R. Durfee, of Portland, OR, one great-grandson Puckerman Durfee, and two sisters Leona Mott of Mesa, AZ and Vera Hamilton of La Jara, CO.A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, followed by a memorial service at 1:00pm in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 177 Miantonomi Ave, Middletown.
