Margaret Mary Hargrove

Margaret Mary Hargrove, 89, of Middletown died Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Heatherwood Nursing Center in Newport. Margaret was born June 17, 1927 in Portsmouth, RI, she was the daughter of the late Luis and Mary (Vieira) Raposo. She was the wife of the late Douglas Hargrove. Born in Portsmouth, Margaret grew up in Newport as a young child. She lived for many years on Aquidneck Ave, Middletown. As a young woman she worked at the Naval Torpedo Station. Margaret began a long career in retail, first as a window dresser at Woolworths in Newport, and later working as a sales clerk at Ames and Zayres. She was a woman of many talents, as a young woman she sang and performed on her fathers radio show, Voice of the Azores. Recently her talents we covered in a newspaper article about her and her twin sister Mary and their history of musical performances. She also used her singing talents for many years with the Jesus Saviour Church choir. Margaret was always very close with her twin sister Mary, and in her free time, she enjoyed duckpin bowling, knitting, and gardening.Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Douglas and her sister Anna Perry. She is survived by her daughter Linda Huffmaster and her husband Rick of Port St. Lucie, FL and her son Stephen Hargrove and his wife Robin of Portsmouth, her grandchildren Derek Huffmaster, Keri Stouky, and Tim Hargrove, and her great granddaughter Sarah Stouky, her twin sister Mary Perry of Middletown, RI, and many nieces and nephews.Calling hours will be Tuesday, May 23 from 4:00-8:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home 375 Broadway, Newport.The funeral will be held Wednesday, May 24 at 11:00am in the Memorial Funeral Home.
