Maria J. Ventura

Maria (Aguiar) Ventura, 96, of Newport died on Friday, March 23, 2018 at the Grand Islander Nursing Home, in Middletown, RI. She was the wife of the late Manuel L. Ventura.Born on September 7, 1921 in San Miguel, the Azores. She and her husband Manuel moved to the US from the Azores in 1969 with their two young children.Maria worked for many years at Newport Hospital in the Housekeeping Department, before retiring in 1983. In her free time, she enjoyed working with her hands, gardening, knitting, and crocheting, as well as fishing with her husband.She is survived by her daughter Maria Ponte of Fall River, MA, her son Anthony Ventura of Newport, RI, three grandchildren, Priscilla Medeiros, George Ponte, and David Ponte, and five great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Aguiar. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 28, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Her funeral will be held on Thursday, March 29 at 9:00am from the funeral home followed by the Funeral Rite at 10:00am in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway, Newport.
