Nancy Lee (Hodge) Braman, 74, passed peacefully at home with family at her side, on Saturday, 6 May in Pawleys Island, SC. Nancy grew up in Mt. Jackson, PA with siblings Janet (Hodge) Hopper, Ronald Hodge, and Norma (Hodge) Genova. She is the daughter of Wesley I. Hodge and Florence (Hoffman) Hodge. Nancy graduated from Mohawk High School (1961) and Geneva College (1965), accepting an elementary teaching position in North Kingstown RI. It was there in 1969 she met the man who would become her partner of 48 years, Eric Braman of Middletown, RI. She is survived by her husband, Colonel (Ret) Eric Braman, children: Lieutenant Colonel (Ret) William Braman, Colonel Matthew Braman, Alison Braman, Major (Ret) Mario Schweizer, Chief Warrant Officer Three Jon Smith, Sergeant First Class Kevin Smith, Captain (VSM) Rija Ramahatra and 13 grandchildren.Nancy earned her master's degree in education from the University of Rhode Island. Leaving the full-time teaching profession in 1972, Nancy transitioned to what she viewed as life's most rewarding roll - full-time Mom. During her years as an army wife and later in life, she served as president - officers wives' club, fund raiser extraordinaire - Brussels American School booster club, substitute teacher, CPA assistant, financial planner, travel agent, bank teller, assistant to the Dean of Students - Norwich University, secretary - Friends of the Sullivan Museum, and several terms as an elected member of the board of directors - Northfield Public Library. She was an avid golfer, mentor - The First Tee and member of the Pawleys Plantation Golf and Country Club. She was an active lifetime sister of the PEO. In retirement, Nancy continued international travel with her family and friends.Calling hours are 5:00 - 8:00 PM Friday, 19 May at Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI. Funeral Service is 9:00 AM Saturday, 20 May at the Calvary United Methodist Church, Middletown, RI, followed by an 11:00 AM internment at the RI Veterans' Cemetery, Exeter, RI.
