Middletown, RI - Nicholas Bishop, 53, of 207 Rogers Lane, Middletown, RI, died on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at home. He was the former husband of Debra Stone Bishop.Born in Chelsea, MA on Jan. 19, 1955, he was the son of Angela Chagaris Bishop of Middletown and the late Broaddus Bishop.Nick worked for N E Plate Glass Co. in Newport, until his retirement in October of 2007. He enjoyed sports, playing golf and softball in the Newport Softball League for N E Glass. Nick also loved the Beatles and all the New England sports teams, the Red Sox, the Patriots, the Bruins and the Celtics. He was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Besides his mother and former wife, he is survived by his seven children, Nicholas Bishop and Robert Bishop of Portsmouth, RI, Rebecca Bishop of Middletown, RI, Ian Stone of Portsmouth, RI, Jason Flaherty of Newport, RI, Deidra Stone of Bristol, RI and Erin Flaherty of Middletown, RI, his sister, Barbara Ray of Middletown, RI, his brothers, Eugene Bishop of Middletown, RI, Steven Bishop and his wife, Nancy, of Newport, RI, Lt. Col Paul Bishop, US Army, and his wife, Jacqueline, of Vicenza, Italy, Scott Bishop and his wife, Annalisa, of Soledad, CA, seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.He was the brother of the late Stewart Bishop and Catherine Kennedy and the brother-in-law of the late Jack Ray. His funeral will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2008 at 10 am from Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a funeral service at 11 am in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, 390 Thames Street, Newport. Burial with military honors will be in Newport Memorial Park, Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 from 4-7 pm in the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to VNS, Hospice, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.The Bishop family would like to send a special thanks to all those who provided support and comfort during our time of need and for Nicks Benefit.
