Norman "Boots" Mallory, 76, of Newport died unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Newport Hospital in Newport, RI. Mr. Mallory was born August 21, 1941 in Newport, RI. He is the son of the late Solomon and the late Leslie (Baines) Mallory. Norman was a graduate of Rogers High School in Newport, where he was a star on the football team. After high school, Norman joined the Army, serving during the Viet Nam War. After returning from the war, he began working in the construction industry and eventually became a heavy equipment operator, at NAVSTA Newport, retiring after 35 years. He enjoyed fishing in his youth, and he was an avid sports fan, any game played with a ball, he'd watch. In his later years, he enjoyed cooking for his lifelong companion, Karen. He loved his Shih Tzu, Rocky, and over the years, had two other Shih Tzus, and could be seen walking them along the railroad tracks in Newport. He is survived by his loving companion of over 50 years, Karen Larson, and his siblings, Carolyn Workman, Jacqueline Mallory, Madelyn Mallory and Kim Weston. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.He is preceded in death by his siblings, Barbara Mallory, Jean Gooding, and Charles (Boots) Mallory.Calling hours will be held on Saturday September 23, 2017 from 9am-11am in the Memorial Funeral Home 375 Broadway in Newport. His funeral service will be held immediately following at 11am Burial will be private.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Robert Potter League for Animals PO Box 412 Newport, RI 02840.
