Ophelia Jacobs, 81, of Jamestown, Rhode Island, passed away on April 23, 2019, at home surrounded by her loving Family.
Ophelia was born April 13, 1938, in Little Rock, AR, to Hafford Cole and Viola (Jones)Cole.
She was predeceased by her brother James Lee Cole and daughter Sabrina Jacobs. She was married to the late Calvin Jacobs Jr. for twenty-two years. Ophelia is survived by her Sister Catherine Whitmire of Newport, Hafford Cole Jr. of Brunswick, Maine, Tina Warner of Woodinville, Washington and Mariana Cole of West Warwick. Ophelia is also survived by her children Kristina Viola Lynn Seymour of Newport, Gail Elena Bolden of Warwick and Katrina Lynn Cole of Coventry.
Ophelia taught horticultural skills at The Maher Center in Newport, Rhode Island, and worked as a teacher aide at Jamestown Elementary School and as a bus monitor for children with autism. Following her retirement, she volunteered and worked at the Newport Art Museum. An avid gardener she attended her own gardens and plants. Her gardens were admired by neighbors and visitors driving or walking by. She loved sharing her plants and expertise to anyone who admired her love for gardening.
Calling Hours will be held Saturday, May 18, 2019, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home 375 Broadway in Newport. A celebration of her life will be held immediately after calling hours at 1:00 pm.
Burial will be in St. Marks Cemetery 293 East Shore Road in Jamestown, RI
