Jamestown, RI - Paul W. Williamson, CDR USN Ret, 82, of 79 Green Lane, Jamestown, RI, died Saturday, January 10, 2009 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. He was the loving husband of Caroline W. Williamson. Born in Batavia, NY, he was the son of the late Rev. John Swan Williamson and Elizabeth Walker Williamson.He graduated from DeVeau Academy in 1944 and enlisted in the US Navy. During WWII he served in the Pacific Campaign as a Seabee. After the war he attended Hobart College and graduated with a BA in History in 1949. He was recalled to the Navy for the Korean War and in 1952 attended Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI. He served in the Navy for the next thirty years in the Cruiser Destroyer Force. After retirement he worked as the Property Manager for the Girl Scouts of Monroe County, NY. He was a keen builder of model ships and trains, belonging to various hobby clubs during his years in New York. He also sang with the Newport Naval Choristers and the Genesee Valley Orchestra and Chorus. He is survived by his wife of 61 years and five children, Marianne E. Deer of Aurora, CO, Catherine L. Lemieux of Portsmouth, RI, John S. Williamson of Jamestown, RI, Victoria E. Denny of Brighton, CO, Barbara J. Procario of Bumpass, VA, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was the brother of Lee F. Williamson of Lafayette, LA, Joan M. Hickey of Owego, NY and Mark H. Williamson of Manchester, WA A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2009, at 10:00 am in St. Matthews Episcopal Church, 87 Narragansett Avenue, Jamestown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lollipop Farm Animal Shelter, 99 Victor Road, Fairport, NY 14450.
