It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Paula Ann Tate,76, of Portsmouth, RI, on September 19, 2025. Born on February 22, 1949, in Philadelphia, PA, she was a beloved mother, sister, friend, and a valued member of her community. Paula will be remembered by all who knew her for her infectious laughter and loving spirit, and her presence will be deeply missed.

Paula was a 1967 graduate of Portsmouth High School and attended George Washington University, in Washington, DC. She began her career as a Municipal Bonds Broker in Philadelphia, also working in Manhattan, Los Angeles, and Boston. She later worked at the Rogers Free Library in Bristol, RI for over ten years, as a Library Assistant, where her passion for books and knowledge inspired countless patrons. She loved sharing the joy of reading with others, a testament to her generous spirit and nurturing disposition.

Beyond her work, Paula was a lover of animals and found great joy in their companionship. She also had a creative side, enjoying knitting and expressing her warmth through handmade gifts for family and friends. Her daughter remembers her as a source of unwavering love and support, and the two shared many cherished moments which will forever remain in their hearts.

Paula is survived by her daughter, Justine Tate; her brother, Phillip MacNeil, his wife Christine; her nephew, J. T. (Joseph Thomas MacNeil), sister-in-law Judy Tate, and brother-in-law Larry Tate. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Catherine MacNeil, her husband, John Tate, John's parents, Mary Alice and Jack Tate, and sister-in-law Eleanor Tate.

In accordance with Paula's wishes, no formal service or gathering will be held. The family respectfully requests that you honor and remember her by taking a moment for personal reflection, sharing memories or photos on her Legacy page, performing acts of kindness, or donating to a local animal shelter in her name.
