Rachel St. Jean age 65 passed away peacefully on Monday, May 23rd, 2016 surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.Born on May 5th 1951 in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of Rose(Dejarlais) and Lionel Jalbert . Rachel attended Woonsocket schools and graduated from Woonsocket High School. Rachel married the love of her life, Ronn St. Jean, upon his return from Military Service in the United States Air Force. They moved to Newport, RI where they raised their son, Jeffrey St. Jean. Rachel was a kind, hardworking, compassionate wife and mother, who adored her family and cherished her friends. She had a perpetual smile and a wonderful sense of humor. She enjoyed the natural beauty of the outdoors especially the beauty of Newport and Narraganset Bay. She was a Professional Gardener who loved to beautify her own property as well as her clients. Her home was always open and welcoming to family and friends to stop by for a cup of tea and conversation, and to share the beautiful gardens that she and her husband Ronn created. She was a member of the Newport Rifle Club and The National Rifle Association. Her nick-name was 'Annie Oakley' because she was a "crack" shot at the Newport Rifle Range. She dearly loved Country Western music and Western Attire - especially her boots and hat. She was an avid Country Western Line Dancer. She loved horseback riding, especially riding mountain trails with the Cowboys at her favorite Dude Ranch in New York. Rachel will be remembered in the whisper of the wind, the soft rain that falls from heaven, the beauty of each garden, each sunrise and sunset, and in each precious memory that her family and friends hold dear to their hearts. Rachel is survived by her loving husband, Ronn St. Jean, her mother Rose Jalbert, her son Jeffrey St. Jean and his wife Lindsay, her brother Maurice Jalbert and his wife Janet and her sister Lorraine and her husband Gerald. The family wishes to thank Newport Hospital Emergency Dept., Tower 2 and 4, Dr. Papa and Medical Staff, Hospice and VNA.Calling hours will be held on Monday, May 30, 2016, from 4-7PM, in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
