Raymond G. Simon, Sr., 88, of Yarmouth Port, MA, passed away peacefully at home in his sleep on April 9th 2026. Ray, known fondly as Jid by his grandchildren, is survived by his wife Irene, and their three children, Suzette (Shawn) Bennett of Middletown, RI, Raymond Simon II of South Hadley, MA, and Cynthia Simon (Dr. Joseph Staples) of Gorham, ME; seven grandchildren, Lucas (Lauren), Bronwen, Gunnar, Zachary (Amanda), Nicholas, Kayla, Jake; and two and a half great-grandchildren, Callum, Harvey, and Roman (due in June). Ray also leaves behind his sister Evelyn Simon of Fall River, MA, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents, James and Marie Simon.
With roots in Lebanon, Ray was born in Fall River, MA, earned his diploma at Durfee HS, and his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from U-Mass.
He loved to laugh and joke, and met every person with open arms and a smile. He was also an adventurer; as a rock climber, as well as serving on ski patrol, and by creating a family legacy of skiing, fishing and boating. He built a dynasty of family and dear friends, who he sincerely loved and cherished.
Ray retired from careers in mechanical engineering (he could fix anything), as a general contractor, and finally, as a consultant to Amtrak. He had served as the president of the Cheshire Lions Club, and was a proud member of the Salties Fishing Club of Cape Cod.
In retirement, and throughout the rest of his years, he remained an avid adventurer, who traveled much of the world, always excited in planning the next trip.
He will be dearly missed.
Services will be held at Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway in Newport, on Saturday, April 18, with a visitation from 9:00-10:00 AM and a service in the funeral home at 10:30am.
