Richard A. Elliott

Richard A. (Dick) Elliott of Portsmouth, RI, 88, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026.

Dick was born on November 18,1937, in Hyannis, MA, and grew up with his five siblings in Centerville, MA. He was the son of Catherine (Danaher) and Robert Elliott, deceased. Dick graduated from Barnstable High School in 1955 and Providence College in 1960. After graduation Dick joined the United States Marine Corps, went to flight training school in Pensacola, Florida, and became a helicopter pilot, stationed at New River Air Facility, NC for three years.

Upon leaving the USMC, Dick worked at Westinghouse, Pittsburgh, followed by a 25 year career at Raytheon in Portsmouth, RI.

Dick loved his family. He was a proud Marine. Dick was an avid gardener who cherished Rhode Island and specifically, his home overlooking Narragansett Bay. Dick consumed the Wall Street Journal each morning, front to back, with most conversations beginning with, "I just read in the Journal today...." He was also particularly fond of family vacations to Key West and trips to Market Basket.

He is preceded in death by his brother Robert and sisters Elizabeth, Maragaret, Marie, and Anne.

Here to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Marguerite (Portsmouth, RI), his daughters Suzanne (Curtis) Vinyard of Annapolis, MD, and Lisa Elliott of Newport, RI., his grandchildren Alexander Smith of Charlotte NC., Chelsea (John) Poole, Kenneth (Madison) Vinyard and Scott Vinyard (Therese), all of Annapolis, MD.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Barnabus Church, Portsmouth, RI in September. Date and time to be announced. Family, neighbors, and friends are warmly invited to attend.
