Richard Straka, 71, of Newport, Rhode Island, passed away on September 20, 2018 at Hope Hospice andPalliative Care of Rhode Island in Providence, RI.
Richard was born in Newport, RI on January 4, 1947, to the late Chester Straka and the late Agnes Straka.
Richard joined the Navy during the Vietnam War and served honorably for ten years. After the military, Richard became an over the road truck driver, working for various companies, traveling up and down the East Coast, and cross country- he loved the open road. He spent time living in Florida, Massachusetts and Rhode Island, of course Rhode Island being his favorite.
Richard is survived by his brother Anthony Straka of Brocton, MA, his daughter, Kerri Lee of North Carolina, and his sister Mary Rosa of Newport, RI.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Ardell Johnson, and his brother Chester E. Straka III.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday September 25, 2018 From 10 am - 12:00 pm in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway in Newport.
Burial will be held immediately following in St. Columba Cemetery, Browns Lane in Middletown, RI.
