Richard P. Levasseur

March 26, 1939 — October 19, 2021

Richard Paul Levasseur age 82 of Tiverton, RI, beloved father and husband, passed away peacefully in his home October 19th, 2021.

Richard was born on March 26, 1939 in Fall River, MA to Adrien and Helen Levasseur. After graduating from Durfee High School in 1958 he attended Boston University. He later served in the National Guard for six years. Richard married Alexandra Rego of Swansea, Massachusetts on October 17, 1964.

Richard was an Engineering Technician for the Naval Underwater System Center (NUSC) in the MK 48 ADCAP Torpedo Program. This Project was a multi-billion dollar weapons acquisition effort of vital importance to the future warfighting capability of the United States. The Project also developed the most advanced torpedo and submarine advancements in the world. Richard received many special achievement awards as an Electronics Technician with the Torpedo Systems Department from 1984-1986 in Charleston, South Carolina. Richard continued his work traveling extensively as an equipment specialist for NUWC. Richard retired in 1996 as a GS-12 after thirty years of service as a government employee.

After his retirement, his greatest joys were his family. Richard (Dick) continued extensive traveling with his wife (Babe) in their RV along the North and Southeast Coast and later resided as snowbirds for seventeen years in Titusville, Florida. Dick was an avid golfer and member at Montaup Country Club for almost 40 years where he formed most of his best friendships. Earlier in life, he was also a competitive bowler and won many trophies. He also loved wood-working which included building furniture for his family, designing model ships, covered wagons as well as designing and building our family home.

Other talents included spending countless hours making many video productions with his brother Ernie for his family leaving a legacy that will be treasured for many years. Richard also had a passion for cooking, recording and collecting videos of the most talented chefs, such as Julia Childs and Jacques Pepin. Additionally, many of Dick's family and friends enjoyed his original marinades and sauces. Other interests included coin and antique model car collecting. Dick also had a love for instrumental music and dance. He and his wife won many dance contests throughout the years. Some of his family's most cherished memories of him include camping, building model rockets, vacationing at their home in Florida and spending time with each other in Rhode Island.

Richard (Dick) leaves behind his wife, Alexandra (Babe) of 57 years, his daughters Denise Walstra and her husband Tony of Waterford, CT, and Diane Helger and her husband David of Tiverton, RI . Richard adored his four granddaughters Nicole Walstra, Jacqueline Helger, Arianna Helger and Paige Walstra and his stepgrandson Vance Walstra. He is also survived by his brother Colonel Ernest Adrien Levasseur and his wife Shirley of Pennsylvania and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Saturday, October 30, 2021 from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM at Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.

A Memorial service for Mr. Richard Levasseur will be held Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St. Christopher Church, Main Road, Tiverton, RI. A Celebration of Life will also be held in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard's name to St. Jude Children's Hospital, www.stjude.org/donate, an organization that Richard supported because of his love for children.
