Rita Anne Breen

June 27, 1930 — October 11, 2017

Rita Ann (Gilchrist) Breen, 87, of Middletown, RI peacefully passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of Raymon and Elsie (Peckham) Gilchrist born on June 27, 1930 in Manchester, NH. She was the wife of the late Paul P. Breen. Rita moved to RI as a child and was a 1948 graduate of Rogers High School. Shortly thereafter, she married the love of her life and resided in Middletown, RI where they raised their five children. Rita could be found spending her time reading, sewing and gardening. She had a strong faith and was an active member of the Calvary United Methodist community for many decades. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren on the farm, family cookouts, taking pictures for her photo albums, and weekly lunch dates with her dear friend May.Rita was preceded in death by her beloved husband Paul, daughter Paula and grandson Patrick. She is survived by her sons, Paul A. Breen and his wife Helen of San Diego, CA; Michael A. Breen and his wife Jackie of Middletown, RI; Richard R. Breen and his wife Ann of Middletown, RI; her daughter, Patricia A. Silvia and her husband George of Portsmouth, RI; her grandchildren Richard Breen Jr. and his wife Lauryn, Daniel Breen, Megan Silvia, and Ryan Silvia. She will be dearly missed as our mother, grandmother, and friend. Rita will be remembered for her infectious smile and laugh, falling asleep with her nose in a book, her strong work ethic, and always enjoying the simple things of life. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cornerstone Adult Services in Little Compton, RI or Calvary United Methodist Church in Middletown, RI.
