Robert ?Shorty? Bond, 85, of 13 Scotty Drive Portsmouth, died Saturday, May 25, 2002 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI.He was the husband of the late Ellen L Jennings Bond. Born in Plaistow, NH on November 8, 1916, he was the son of the late Helen Bond. Mr. Bond owned and operated B E Taxi Company for over 50 years. He was a member of St. Pauls Methodist Church, Newport, and the Portsmouth Multi-Purpose Senior Center, Portsmouth, R.I. He was an avid card player. Mr. Bond was a World War II Army Veteran serving in the Southern Phillippines. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon with one service star, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, Word War II Victory Medal. He is survived by two daughters: Ellen E Tavares of Tiverton, R.I., Barbara L. Hardy of Newport, R.I., one son Robert A. Bond of Newport, RI, nine grandchildren and twelve greatgrandchildren. Mr. Bond was the father of the late Frank L. Bond. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2002 at 11:00 am in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, NewportBurial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.
