With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) C. Creaney on July 1, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on October 28, 1944, in Providence, Rhode Island, Bob spent his life dedicated to education, serving as a cherished teacher for Portsmouth Public Schools. Loved deeply by his students, he brought warmth, humor, and unwavering support into every classroom. He held not one, but two master's degrees from the University of Rhode Island, a testament to his love for learning and his commitment to shaping young minds. In addition to his work in the classroom, Bob served as an officer for the Portsmouth School Union, working tirelessly to support and protect the rights of teachers throughout the district
Bob was not only an educator; he was also a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, having served until his discharge on July 31, 1969. His military service instilled in him a sense of discipline and community that he carried throughout his life.
A devoted husband to Andrea Creaney, a loving father to Morgan, Alyson (husband Eric), and Heather (husband William), and a doting grandfather to Michael, Emma, Joshua, Jonah, Vivienne, and Maddox, Bob's greatest joy was undoubtedly his family. He had a knack for making everyone laugh and loved sharing his passion for life with his grandchildren. Whether it was wearing his iconic red socks, humming along to Christmas music throughout the year, or enjoying everything Disney - Bob's spirit was infectious.
A member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Bob found joy in singing with the church choir, giving voice not only to his love for music but to his faith as well. Bob's life will be celebrated during a funeral service at St. Mary's Episcopal Church on July 11, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Churchyard.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff of the Rhode Island Veterans Home for the exceptional care, compassion, and dignity they provided to our beloved Bob. In remembrance of Bob, donations of items to the Veterans Home are encouraged to benefit the veterans he proudly stood beside.
