Robert M. Gray

Robert M. Gray, 81, of Middletown, Rhode Island, died at home on October 2, 2026. Born in Palmerton, PA on June 25, 1945, he was the son of the late Martin and Louise (Coury) Gray. Bob grew up in Lansford, PA and graduated from Marian High School, Carbon County, PA, in 1963.

Eager to see the world, he earned a spot in the US Naval Academy and thus began a long proud journey with the US Navy. After graduation from the Naval Academy in the Class of 1969, Bob was assigned to an aircraft carrier and had to leave his wife and young daughter at home. For years he traveled the world in service to his country. His Navy career then continued on shore with a position teaching other officers at the Naval War College in Newport. With his family settled in Newport, his next assignments took him to California until his retirement from active duty.

Bob soon found a new team to support, and to share his technical knowledge from the Navy, by joining the growing industry of data science and software systems. He worked for many years in several different positions and companies, eventually moving from California to Colorado where he met his wife Torrey whom he married in 2000. After success in the software sales industry, he took the opportunity to retire early and enjoy life in Colorado. After a few years, he soon found himself returning to Rhode Island to be closer to his daughter and grandchildren.The last several years of Bob's life have been filled with connecting with their lives and activities, from soccer and lacrosse games, art exhibits to holiday meals. He enjoyed the company of friends most of all and was always proud to tell anyone he met about his family's many accomplishments. He had a particular soft spot for animals of all sorts and adopted many cats throughout his life. Most recently he adopted two bonded cats and his tortoise Taco. He relished the opportunity to walk his daughter's dogs and did it every chance that he got. He also enjoyed a remarkable ability to send just the right card to nearly everyone he met on several occasions.

Robert is survived by his wife Torrey (Rhodes) Gray, his daughter Missi Monahan (Michael) of Middletown, a brother Gary Gray (Kelly) of San Ramon, CA, two sisters, Marie Gray (late Ken Schiff ) of Erie, PA, and Ann Schwartz (Bob) of Wernersville, PA, his beloved grandchildren; Miles and Maeve Monahan of Middletown, RI . He leaves Torrey's children Christy Feller of Golden, CO and her children Brandon and Jack, Bob Feller, Jeanie Jungbauer of Golden, CO and her children Tyler and Riley. Daniel Dillard, Joshua Dillard and his wife Kassey and their twins Ezra and Torrey Jean, several nieces and nephews: Chris and Cory Gray, Rebecca Navagh, Nick Schiff, and Jessica and Matthew Rivera.
