Robert C
Kestler
August 14, 1964 – April 25, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert C. Kestler, beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend, who left us too soon on April 25, 2026 at the age of 61. Born on August 14, 1964, Robert lived a life defined by love of family, loyal friendship, faith, and dedicated service.
Bob dedicated 20 years to the Portsmouth Police Department, building a career defined by service, commitment, and strong community ties. He earned a degree in Criminal Justice from Roger Williams University. Throughout his tenure, he took on the important role of D.A.R.E. resource officer, where he educated and mentored youth, leaving a lasting impact on the community. He concluded his law enforcement career at the rank of Detective, retiring with a legacy of integrity and service.
Above all else, Bob's greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren. He never missed a game, competition, or special event, always cheering from the sidelines and celebrating every milestone. Whether sharing stories at gatherings, taking road trips while embracing the open road on his motorcycle with his brother, rebuilding or fixing something, or sitting by an open fire, he treasured time spent with family and friends. He welcomed everyone with kindness and quickly made friends in every community he touched.
He is survived by his loving children, Ashley Kestler-Scanlon and her husband Kyle, and Zachary Kestler and his wife Kristin; his cherished grandchildren, Lilly, Trevor, Sydney, Kiley, Emily, and Jordan; his sister, Carolyn Skrzypiec and her husband Michael; his brother-in-law, Bob Harvey; the mother of his children, former wife and constant loving friend, Robyn Kestler; and many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Elizabeth Kestler; his siblings, Lawrence Kestler, Mary Evelyn Harvey, and Barbara Boutwell; and his brother-in-law, Barry Boutwell.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, May 4, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 118 Division Street, East Greenwich.
Bob's spirit will forever ride alongside those who loved him, inspiring all who knew him to live fully, love deeply, and cherish every moment. Caring for others came naturally to him, it was simply who he was. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
