Obituary

It is with heavy hearts yet a spirit of celebration that we announce the passing of Robert Lima, who departed this world on June 2, 2026, just days shy of his 84th birthday. A beloved resident of Newport, Rhode Island, Robert was not only a cherished brother, uncle, and friend but also a talented artist whose vibrant spirit and creativity touched the lives of many.

Born on June 23, 1942, Robert graduated from Rogers High School and went on to pursue his passion for beauty and creativity by attending hairdresser school in Providence at a young age. His early career in hairstyling was just a glimpse of his artistic talents, which flourished throughout his life. Robert held a deep appreciation for the arts, particularly painting, and he relished the opportunity to share his creations with family and friends. His enthusiasm was infectious, and his artwork brought joy to those fortunate enough to receive a piece or see his exhibitions, including a notable display at the local Redwood Library.

Robert was also a devoted dog lover, always welcoming a furry companion into his life. His love for animals reflected his compassionate nature and zest for living.

He leaves behind a loving family who will honor his memory: his sisters Joan Saunders and BernNadette Jenkins, his brothers Donald Gomes Sr & Richard Gomes, along with a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. Together, they will celebrate his extraordinary life and the joy he brought into the world.

As we remember Robert, let us carry forward his love for the arts, his compassion for others, and the wonderful memories we've shared. May his spirit live on in every brushstroke, every laugh, and every wag of a dog's tail.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents John N Lima Sr and Anna Lopes, his brothers Philip Gomes Jr, George Gomes, John Lima Jr, his sisters Delores Early, Mary Threadgil and Diane Thomas.
