It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Simon Morton, Jr. on May 26, 2025, at the age of 88. Robert, known to all as Bob, was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and a true gem in the Newport community-having moved to this picturesque island in 1993, where he found joy and contentment in every moment spent in the beautiful surroundings he adored.
Born on May 8, 1937, Bob lived a life full of adventure and achievement. He proudly served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army at Ft. Knox, depicting his dedication to service and leadership. After earning his degree from Boston College in 1959, he continued to pursue his academic ambitions, earning a Master's degree from Indiana University in 1961.
Bob launched his career at Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati, but his entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish the Promotional Marketing Corporation in Westport, CT, where he spent countless hours building a business he loved until his retirement.
Family was everything to Bob. He cherished his wife, Drucilla, known to all as Dewey, and will be deeply missed by his seven children: Robert Simon Morton, III (Maria), Catherine Barker, Sean Morton, Thomas Morton (Iris), Peter Morton, Sheila Kopsick, and Daniel Morton (Michelle), and his eleven grandchildren. His love extended beyond blood; he was always willing to lend a helping hand, volunteering at Newport Hospital and Visiting Nurse Association's Home Hospice for 15 years. His compassion and kindness touched many lives, leaving a legacy of love and care.
A passionate gardener, Bob took immense pride in his yard, finding solace and joy in nurturing the world around him. He found happiness in the simple things-spending time outdoors and enjoying the beauty of his home in Newport.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Catherine (O'Donnell) Morton.
