Mrs. Rose Kutsaftis, age 90, of Newport, Rhode Island, passed away on July 16, 2018 at Newport Hospital after a short illness. Rose was born in Hartford, CT to Michael Kalogianes and Pelagia (Morris) Kalogianes.
Rose grew up on Broad Street in Hartford. After graduation from high school she went to work at the Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford and remained there until her marriage to George Kutsaftis. They moved to Newport, RI to start their family. George was an owner/operator Of the RI lunch on Broadway. He worked there with his father and uncles until his death in 1967. Rose was widowed at a young age and worked hard to provide for her children, yet always kept an open door to friends and family. Everyone was welcome and food was always on the table. She loved to cook especially traditional Greek dishes. Mrs. Kutsaftis was a longtime member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church and a member of their Philoptochos Society.
Rose is survived by her sons Anthony Kutsaftis (Donna) and Michael Kutsaftis of Newport, James Kutsaftis (Laura) of Middletown, and a daughter Pamela Ferber (John) of Novato, CA. She also leaves 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her Husband George, her parents, and a brother Emmanuel Kalogianes.
Calling Hours will be held Sunday, July 22, 2018 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 23, 2018, at 11:00 AM at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, 390 Thames St, Newport. Burial will follow in Middletown Cemetery.
