Ruth Bordon Gay, 96, of Middletown, RI passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Newport Hospital. Born December 21, 1921 in Providence, RI, Ruth was the daughter of the late Frederick E. and Alice (Kittridge) Siewerts. Ruth was a graduate of Hope High School in Providence. In 1942 she married Wilfred H. Gay. While he served in the Navy, they lived in Newport, RI where he had schooling in optics and then in New London, CT where he repaired binoculars and telescopes for the Navy. At his passing, they had been married 64 years.She worked early in life at the Outlet Co, Shepards Department Store and Gladdings in Providence. She also worked at Gay Tool Die Co with Wilfred for many years. They raised their children in Burrillville, RI where she was active in the Methodist Church and in 4-H with her children.In 1971 they sold the Tool Die Company and moved to Panama City, Florida where they bought a motel and gift shop in Panama City Beach. It was sold after many years and they moved to a home in Forest Park, Panama City. She worked for Gayfers Department Store during those years. In retirement, she belonged to St. Andrews Bay Quilters Group where she won many awards for her quilting talents.She will always be remembered as a caring and loving person to her family and friends.She is survived by a sister, Frances Nordbye of Panama City, FL, a son, Frederick E. Gay and his wife Victoria of Whitinsville, MA, and a daughter, Elaine G. Kirby and her husband Alan of Middletown, RI, her grandchildren, James Gay and his wife Kimberly of Lincoln, RI, Myah Ruth Gay of Whitinsville, MA, Scott Miles of Hopedale, MA and Samantha Miles of Richmond, VA, and two great grandchildren, Kyleigh Gay and Aubrie Gay. She was predeceased by her sister, Nancy Bennett.Her funeral will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at 2:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
