Ruth E. Souza

Ruth E. Souza, age 90, of Newport died Friday, May 12, 2017, at home. Mrs. Souza was born December 1, 1926, in Manchester, NH, the daughter of the late George Warren and the late Viola (Woodbury) Tibbetts. She was the wife of the late John Philip Souza Sr. Mrs. Souza worked as an assembler for General Electric for many years. A kind hearted woman, she loved nothing more than taking care of family and was always there for them. In her spare time she enjoyed making ceramics and loved tending to her garden with her husband - flowers in the front yard and vegetables in the back. Its said not a bad word could be said about her and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.She is survived by her daughter, Mary Perry, and a brother, Owen Pierce, eleven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.She was predeceased in death by her son, John Philip Souza, Jr., her daughter Barbara Ann Migliori, her brothers, David A. Tibbetts, Kenneth Tibbetts, George Tibbetts, and her sister, Bernice Bunny Wajda.Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, from 6-8pm, at the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.Her funeral will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2017, at 10:00am, at the St. Josephs Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport, RI. The family asks that all who want to attend her funeral to please meet up at the church for the service not at the funeral home.Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery, Brown's Lane, Middletown.
