Sarah (Sally) Rose Burt Ellenwood aged 86 passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 1, 2017 at St. Elizabeth's Manor in Bristol RI. Always called Sally by family and friends, she is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Robert A. Ellenwood. Sally is the mother of Kathleen Margaret Rodrigues, husband Richard; Robert Lee Ellenwood, wife Karen; and Linda Gail Potts, husband Timothy. Grandchildren: Sarah Rodrigues, Alissa and Robert Ellenwood, Dillon, William and Laura Potts all of Portsmouth RI. Sally's parents were the late Walter and Margaret (Howell) Burt. She is preceded to heaven by her beautiful daughter Nancy and her beloved siblings Ann Burt Starrat, Margaret Burt Calden, Walter Burt and William Burt.Sally graduated from West Roxbury High school, and was proud that her first job was at the Federal Reserve Bank Boston in the accounting department. A request for a Country song while out with friends led to Sally meeting the love of her life, Bob. They were married within a few months of meeting and their life adventure began.Sally became a Navy wife and the Ellenwood family lived in Massachusetts, Kansas, Illinois, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, and Morocco Africa, and their family grew along the way. When Bob retired from the U.S. Navy, the family established the family home in Portsmouth RI. Sally was an active communicant at St. Anthony's Parrish in Portsmouth RI. Over the years Sally worked at a variety of retail stores as a cashier and inevitably the Service desk supervisor. She was employed by Warwick Shoppers World, Nyanza, and Kmart in Middletown RI. She was a member of the Portsmouth Senior Center where she played cards and helped out as a volunteer once she retired.Sally had a keen sense of humor and with her sister Margie could be counted on to get "the party rolling". Sally enjoyed many hobbies over her life time. She was an accomplished bowler and was the New England women's champion in the early 1970's. Sally made a variety of ceramic pieces and afghans over the years which have become treasured family heirlooms. In addition to being a world class shopper, she loved to dance, sing big band tunes, and host family game nights of cut throat card games. In additions to all these things, traveling with Bob was one of her favorite things to do. Sally is beloved for her ability to brighten the lives of all she meets, even as she battled Alzheimer's Disease she reached many people with her caring and kindness.There will be a private service for immediate family.
