Obituary

Sandra Rose (Makeever) Correia, 72 of Naples, Florida, passed away on April 17, 2026. Born to Rose Ann (Nunes) Makeever and Harold D. Makeever Sr and raised in Middletown, RI, she lived a life full of love, humor, and dedication to family and friends.

Sandy was a graduate of Middletown High School and proudly worked as a Unit Secretary at Newport Hospital for 45 years. Her passion, empathy and dedication to her work ensured that patients and coworkers alike were in good hands regardless of the surroundings. Sandy thrived both in the chaos of the late night emergency room as well as the peace of the inpatient floors. She was always happy to spend time with her work family and continued to speak fondly of her time at Newport Hospital long into her retirement. Sandy had a spirit of creativity woven through all her passions. She enjoyed making homemade wreaths and was known for her collections of shells and sea glass and unique rocks displayed beautifully throughout her houses and gardens. Sandy was an avid reader and devoured books whenever she could. Like a tried and true local, her favorite spot was 2nd Beach. When her children were young there was not one missed beach day throughout the entire summer. After retirement, Sandy devoted herself fully to loving and caring for her grandchildren whom she cherished with all of her heart.

Sandy is survived by her sons Christopher Correia of Middletown, Kyle Correia and wife Michelle of Naples, Florida, her beloved grandchildren Addilynn, Kora, Jake and Bryce, Sisters-in-law Lynda Correia and Betsy Makeever, her niece Molly Crossett and many, many more who were profoundly impacted by her presence in their life.

Sandy was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years (and partner for many more), George Correia. Together they navigated their lives from a chance meeting at a Dunkin Donuts in high school to a house in Middletown where their children broke windows with baseballs, made skateboard ramps in the street and where loud punk rock would rumble out of their basement into the humid summer air. Our family also takes solace in the thought of Sandy being reunited with her beloved brother and closest friend, Harold Makeever. There was no sibling bond stronger than the one between these two. They were truly bonded for life and had the unique distinction of simultaneously being one another's protector, confidant, and best friend regardless of time, location, or life event.

Calling Hours will take place on Thursday, July 23, at Memorial Funeral Home on 375 Broadway in Newport, RI from 4-6pm. A funeral service in the same location will follow.

The family invites all who wish to pay their respect to Sandy's brother, Harold Makeever of Delano, TN, formerly of Middletown, RI, to attend these services.

Sandy was known for her love of animals, so in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her memory to The Potter League for Animals (87 Oliphant Lane, Middletown, RI 02842 or https://potterleague.org/).
