Sgt. Michael Weidemann

Newport, RI - Michael R. Weidemann, 23, of Newport, RI, was killed in action in Iraq on Tuesday, October 31, 2006. Born in Canada, on August 17, 1983, he was the son of the late Susanna Miller Weidemann. Michael was a 2001 graduate of Rogers High School, and attended the affiliated Newport Area Career and Technical Center, where he specialized in automotive technology. He was an honors student and a member of the school?s JROTC program. He enlisted in the Army the month after his graduation. Michael was a member of the 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Armored Division, stationed in Giessen, Germany. He is survived by his maternal grandmother Gertrude K.C. Miller of Newport, his sister Catharine E. Weidemann of North Providence, his brothers Edward R. and Benjamin J. Berriault, both of Portsmouth, and Richard L. Weidemann, Jr. of Chepachet, RI, his uncles Ambrose C. Miller, Jr. of South Kingstown, and Edward C. Miller of Connecticut, his aunts Marianne W. Jordan of Texas and G. Kim Evans of California, and his niece Cassidy Berriault and his brothers? adoptive parents, Robert and Julia Berriault of Portsmouth. He was the grandson of the late Ambrose C. Miller, Sr. His funeral will be held on Friday, November 10, at 2:00pm in St. Marys Episcopal Church, 324 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI. Burial with full Military Honors will be after the service in St. Marys Churchyard in Portsmouth.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2006, from 4-8pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Memorial donations may be made to Rogers High School JROTC, 15 Wickham Road, Newport, RI 02840.
