Sheila E. Mackinnon

June 9, 1923 — January 13, 2019

Sheila (Barry)MacKinnon, 95, formerly of Middletown, RI, passed away on January 13, 2019 at Village House Nursing Home in Newport. Sheila was the wife of the late Deacon Joseph W.MacKinnon.

Born and raised in Newport, she was the daughter of the late Jeremiah and Helena (OSullivan) Barry.
Sheila is survived by her daughterMarisheila and the late Robert P. Weidmanof Virginia Beach, VA, son JosephA. MacKinnonand his wife Janella E. MacKinnon of Exeter, RI, 5 grandchildren; Mary Theresa Farricker (Chris), Michael Weidman (Sara), Joseph MacKinnon, Victoria Baumann (Andrew) and Krista Ricci (Matthew) as well as 9 great grandchildren, MacKinnon, Lily, Jack, Caleb, Matty, Cate, Bridget, Owen, and baby Ricci.

Sheila resided on Freeborn St. in Middletown in the house her husband built. Sheila worked at the Torpedo Station on Goat Island, Elmhurst Academy and McLaughlin Research Corp. Sheila and Joe were original members of St Lucys parish where she was active as a lector, Eucharistic minister, and a founding member of Helping Hearts. She was a lay Associate of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was a Hospice volunteer for a number of years.

Calling hours will be held Friday, January 18, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.

Her funeral will be held Saturday at 9:00 AM from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown. Burial will follow at St. Columba Cemetery.
