Sonya Myishsha Cerezo
January 17, 1977 — January 25, 2019
Sonya Myishsha Cerezo-DelRio of Cranston RI passed away peacefully on January 25th, 2019 at the Hope Health Hospice Care in Providence RI. She was born January 17, 1977 in Newport, Rhode Island and passed away at the age of 42.
Sonya had a tremendous love for Star Trek. She was passionate about gardening and harvesting fresh vegetables for her family to eat. She loved music and would listen to almost anything with a rhythm she could dance to. Sonya had a kind heart and would help anyone whenever possible. Family meant the world to her, including her cat Nelix. She was extremely proud of her culture, even tattooing the continent of Africa on herself and continuously connecting with her Afro-Cubano roots.
Sonya is survived by her parents Katherine Del Rio (Munford) and Ramon Del Rio of Middletown, RI, her daughters Shan Tayja Del Rio and Ydalia Cerezo of Cranston, RI and her sisters Stephanie Campbell (Portsmouth, RI), Allisson Smith (Providence, RI) and Kisha Tluczek (Phoenix, AZ). She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Despite her illness, Sonya was an amazing mother and woman to all. She befriended many people online going through the same rare condition. She is now at peace and no longer has to suffer from Interstitial Cystitis. In lieu of sending flowers, please consider learning about IC and donating to www.icawareness.org to support.

Calling hours will be held on Friday February 1, 2018 from 10:00am -12:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home 375 Broadway in Newport. Her funeral service will be immediately following calling hours at 12:00 pm in the funeral home.
Burial will be private.
