Susan Olivia Stone Niazy passed away on November 6, 2025. Brilliant, creative, and endlessly resilient, she lived a life defined by compassion, intellect, and quiet strength.
A graduate of Johns Hopkins University, she dedicated her career as a speech pathologist to helping children with learning disabilities find their voices and overcome barriers to learning. Her patience, insight, and extraordinary skill left a lifelong impact on countless children and families.
Beyond her professional life, she was an artist at heart. She created beauty wherever she went, whether through her cooking, her art, or the spaces she shaped around her. She never did things the ordinary way; she followed her own vision, always with care, intention, and inspiring results.
She was deeply devoted to her family, showing up with intention, grace, and steadfastness in every season of life. Her four grandchildren were a source of endless love and pride, and she delighted in every joy and milestone they shared. After retirement, she continued to give of herself as a volunteer at the Martin Luther King Center, where her warmth and empathy touched everyone she met.
A child of the 1960s, she never lost her instinct to question authority or her infuriation with those who mistook privilege or cruelty for strength. Her wish for all of us would be simple: Be good to people. Especially those in need.
She left this world quickly, just as she wished for, but far too soon for those who loved her. She is survived by her husband of over fifty years, Farouk Niazy, her sister Andrea Stone, her children Andy Niazy and wife Summer, and Jenny O'Shea and husband Gregory, and her beloved grandsons (who affectionately called her "No-Name") Keaton and Alex O'Shea, and Oscar and Cass Niazy. All of whom simply wish to say to her, one last time, 'Thank you."
An informal gathering in honor of her life will be held on January 11, 2026, at The Fastnet Pub in Newport 11am - 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Martin Luther King Center, Newport.
