Sylvin O. Mottley

Sylvin Oscar Mottley, 84, of Middletown, Rhode Island, passed away on February 21, 2019 at home surrounded by his family.Sylvin was born November 4, 1934, in Bridgetown, Barbados. He was the son of the late Brutus Mottley.Sylvin was the husband of the late Joyce(Miller) Mottley.Mr. Mottley worked for over 20 years at the former Sheraton Islander Hotel as a cook and set up person for buffets, a job that he loved. After working at the Sheraton Islander, he went on to work at the Newport Harbor and Marine Hotel, which is where he retired from. After retirement, he continued cooking for his family at home, and loved spending time with his great grandchildren. He liked going for walks during nice weather, and playing the lottery. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.Sylvin is survived by his two sons; Wayne Mottley, of Tiverton, RI and MIchael Mottley of Middletown, RI, and also his grandchildren, Amanda King of Middletown, and Paige King of Tiverton. He is also survived by four great grandchildren; Isaac, Emily, ChristopherTonalysi all of Tiverton.Calling hours will be held on Sunday March 3, 2019 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, in the Memorial Funeral Home 375 Broadway in Newport. His funeral service will be immediately following calling hours at 12:00 pm in the funeral Home.Burial will be private.
