Obituary

Tarris John Caswell, 33, of Atlanta, GA, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026, in Atlanta, GA. He was born on July 28, 1993, in Newport, RI, to John Caswell and Leslie "Muffy" McCalla.

Tarris spent his early childhood in Newport before moving with his family to Virginia Beach, VA. After graduating from Green Run High School, he returned to Newport, where he spent much of his adult life.

As a young man, Tarris pursued professional modeling, working with brands including AKOO and Play Cloths. His confidence, style, and natural presence in front of the camera gave him another outlet for his creativity.

While modeling was an important chapter in Tarris's life, music was in his heart and soul. His love of music began at home, inspired by his parents. That foundation led him to build his career as a producer and DJ, allowing him to create, travel, tour, and form friendships that reached far beyond any one city. His journey eventually led him to Atlanta, GA, where he made his home and continued to pursue his passion for music.

If you knew Tarris, you knew his energy. He was full of life and personality, with an infectious smile that could brighten any room. You didn't simply notice when Tarris walked into a room - you felt his presence. His energy was magnetic, and he had a natural ability to bring laughter and joy to those around him.

Beyond his accomplishments, Tarris was a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend. Those who loved him will remember his laughter, larger-than-life personality, love of music, and the joy he brought to their lives.

Tarris was preceded in death by his grandfather, Rueben "Poncho" McCants, Jr.; his uncles, Troy Barnes and Kareem Barnes; and his aunt, Janiece Evans.

Here to cherish his memory are his mother, Leslie "Muffy" McCalla; his father, John Caswell; his stepfather, Dondi Vandroff; his siblings, Lochiel Lema, Deja Vandroff, Natascha Mello, Isabella DeCosta, Kieve Nance, and Yotese "Manny" Hernandez; his grandmothers, Leslie McCalla and Margaret Caswell; his grandfather, John Caswell Sr.; his aunts, Tannya Stanton, Allyson McCalla, Antoinette McCalla, Vanessa Hall, Janelle Moss, and Lorraine Evans; his uncles, Steven Stanton and Rueben McCants III; his godmother, Maria Evans; and a host of cousins, extended family, lifelong friends, and many others whose lives he touched.

Whenever life presented Tarris with a challenge, he would confidently say:

"God got me."

Those words reflected the faith and confidence with which he approached life, and today, they carry an even deeper meaning for those who loved him.

Though his time with us was far too short, the love, laughter, music, and memories Tarris gave us will remain with us forever.

On Saturday, September 12, 2026, calling hours will begin at 10 AM at OceanPointe Christian Church, 66 Valley Road, Middletown, RI 02842, followed by a funeral service at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Friends Cemetery.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Tarris's life at 2 PM at Vasco Da Gama (Fenner Hall).
